Our Brooklyn Web Design Process

Our Brooklyn Web Design Process for New Website Projects

So you are hiring a web design company in New York and aren’t quite sure what to expect. We get questions all the time about our process and what a new client can expect. Below you will see our exact process for a new website design strategy.

1) Research & Strategy

The first step is we need to thoroughly understand your business, your business goals, your customers and their expectations and behavior, and how your website factors into all of it. We’ll also look at the competitive landscape to establish context and benchmarks for how your site should function and then improve on that. This stage will give us the foundation for moving forward with the right recommendations for the design and development of your new WordPress website.

We will begin the project with a kick-off call where we discuss the design and functionality of the site.  We will also send you a web questionnaire where we ask you to provide other website designs you like, as well as other questions like color patterns and styles that may be useful to us during the design process. You can choose to be as involved and hands on as possible or leave the creative control up to us and our expertise.

2) Homepage Design / Development

Using WordPress, the design & development of the website doesn’t have to be split up so we can do both at once. We start off with your homepage which is the most important page on your website. This is the first page people see and in many cases, visitors don’t navigate to the other pages. For this reason, the homepage needs to encompass sections that give briefings about all of the important factors on your business and all of the importat pages on your website. This page sets the first impression and a lot of effort needs to be put into this page in order to create a successful user experience on your website. More importantly, we do the homepage first because all of the inner pages follow the same design patterns as the homepage. It makes sense for you to approve the homepage design first before we get to the rest of the pages.

3) Homepage Revision

We will send you a link to the website work in progress where you can view the first version of your homepage. Please view this version from a desktop / laptop environment as we do all responsive / mobile adjustments at the end. This proposal includes one revision round for the homepage.

4) Inner Pages Design / Development

Once the homepage is approved and finalized, we begin work on the inner pages. We match the design of the homepage in order to keep a consistent feel and user experience throughout the entire website. Each inner page will be unique from each other in terms of content and will display a clear and concise purpose while being as informative as possible to the website visitor.

 5) Inner Pages Revision

As with the homepage revision phase, you have the option to send us revisions on any or all of the inner pages. This proposal includes one revision round for all of the inner pages.

6) Quality Assurance

Once the website is approved on all pages, we will do a quality assurance check. We will test out the website on multiple browsers & computers to fix any bugs or inconsistencies we notice. We will also check the website on all different devices such as different mobile phones & tablets and ensure a responsive user experience.

7) Deployment

We collect the remaining balance of the website and then transfer the website to your server. We will need your website hosting login (e.g. GoDaddy login) or we need to be added as a user on your hosting CPanel if you can’t get us the login. It’s pretty easy and we can email or call with instructions on how to do this. If you don’t have a domain or hosting set up, we will also assist with getting everything set up for you.

*Note – If you don’t have your current hosting on SetupShopOnline.com or GoDaddy or want us to set up a new server on any website other than SetupShopOnline.com or GoDaddy, hourly maintenance fees will be billed. This is because we are most familiar with SetupShopOnline.com and GoDaddy and many other hosting websites often give problems that result in us having to call their support team to make the website live. This is usually due to an issue on their end as some of them are outdated.

And there you have it! With this process our clients have the opportunity to be involved in the design process while we handle all the technicalities.
